The McCammon Farmers Market is currently scheduled for every Friday (May-October) from 9 am-12 noon at the Center & 6th Street Park. The McCammon Action Council is behind this event and with our wonderful lead, Kathy Spiegel, we were able to get the market up and running in 2019.

Many in the community reached out to us to say they would like to shop the market, but are working and not able to on Fridays. We want you to know “We hear you!” and are currently working to see if we can move it to Saturday or expand it to Friday and Saturday this year.

We’re also looking to expand and grow the market to include arts, crafts and much more. If we receive the participation we’d like to see, we’ll have booths set-up all around the pavilion park. Our vision is to have an abundance of locally grown produce…but also an array of local artisans and vendors sharing their talents and wares.

If this has piqued your interest and you’d like to be involved —in any capacity—please contact us now to get started. Spring will be here before we know it!—LeAnn, MAC-McCammon Action Council

Let’s GROW our new Farmers Market together!

Be it homemade bread and preserves, artwork, woodwork, pottery, macrame, quilts, soaps, jewelry, honey, flowers, plants, clothing, antiques…

Whatever your specialty or skill set, we’d love to see you involved!

The Harkness Hotel – Our Story

We stayed in a mediocre hotel during our honeymoon. After that memorable experience we started thinking about the possibility of creating a luxury hotel ourselves “someday.”

That “someday” came a lot sooner than we thought it would (two years vs. decades down the road.) Neither of us had owned a business nor had any hospitality industry experience prior to embarking on this journey. Our limited knowledge of hotels came from traveling in our single days, staying in various hotels around the world. However, when the opportunity presented itself—as risky as it sounded to everyone (including ourselves)—we knew that uprooting our family from Washington D.C. and moving to a village (population 805) somehow felt right.

The work we had in store was daunting and some days we’ve wondered, “What were we thinking?!”

An intense year of major renovations first resuscitated and then breathed new life into the building. There is a lot to be said for putting in good ol’ elbow grease and investing in beautiful structures of days gone by. They just don’t build today like they did in the past. However, it isn’t for the faint of heart or spirit, mind you!

With the help of numerous members of the community and many hopes and prayers, our crazy dream became a reality and we opened in July 2014 with eight rooms and suites.

Since then, we have continued to renovate and improve our building adding two ground floor rooms, The Ivory & The Slate…

…and also opened the Harkness Salon & Spa (May 2017) matching the atmosphere of the hotel.

In November 2018, we received the “2018 Most Inspired Design of The Americas” award at a ceremony held in London.  We were surprised and honored to say the least.

We’ve come a long way in just a few short years. It’s amazing what can be accomplished with creative vision, a little resourcefulness, having great help, and dedicating countless hours to an inspirational project.

Our next venture is a restaurant within the building…fingers crossed it will come together in 2020!

Unexpected luxury sums up what we’ve created here in McCammon, Idaho…some say the pictures don’t do the renovation justice. —You’ll just have to come and check it out for yourself!

Best,

Aaron & Arianne Hunsaker

Movie Night in the Park

Our First Movie Night in the Park was held July 26th, 2019. Over 300 people brought their blankets, pillows and lawn chairs and settled in for a night of cinematic entertainment under the stars.

We think it’s pretty clear…An “INCREDIBLE” time was had by all. ????

Our leads on this were Sherri Bordeaux and Aaron Hunsaker—a big shout-out to them: Thank you for making this our new summer tradition. —Four movie nights are planned for 2020!

This event was produced by MAC (McCammon Action Council.) We so appreciate all our sponsors and every person who contributed to its success. Thank you: City of McCammon, Dale Kinloch, Pierson Livestock, Mark Detton, Ireland Bank and Idaho Central Credit Union.

Bike Rodeo and Safety Day 2019, Portneuf Air Rescue lands in McCammon Ball Field

Bike Rodeo Safety Day

A fun and educational day for all ages, this year’s annual Bike Rodeo and Safety Day was held August 24th, 2019.

The Portneuf Air and Rescue helicopter kicked off the event in a dramatic fashion by landing in the middle of the ball field where little kids (as well as a few grown-up kids) had the rare opportunity to sit in the pilot’s seat.

The PSI truck, the McCammon fire trucks  and the Bannock County Ambulance and Sheriff were on hand for demonstrations and questions.  Everyone had the chance to get up-close to these vehicles and to learn more about the people who work in these important positions in our community.

To round out the fun, there was a huge slide and bouncy-house and lots of giveaways and treats.

Sherri Bordeaux of the McCammon Action Council and City Clerk of McCammon, says the event is growing every year and Idaho Fish and Game and Union Pacific among others are planning to be involved in 2020.

If you or your company or organization are interested in participating in this or other upcoming events, please contact Sherri Bordeaux at the City Office
